Ambleside Farmers’ Market in the parking lot behind the Police Station on Bellevue between 13th and 14th Streets in West Vancouver, Ambleside runs every Sunday from 10am to 3pm from the first Sunday in May to the last Sunday in October.

There are cooking competitions on the first market of each month, and Family Days on the third weekend of each month.  Check out the market website for more info.

Essentially a large cocktail party, Lovestruck is Vancouver’s most interactive and fashionable bridal event, in an upscale and pampered environment.

This year’s theme will be VINTAGE GLAMOUR.

You will receive pampering, canapes, fashion shows, drinks, optional workshops.  Each bride will receive a Free Love Swag bag, which includes such great items as a spa kit, pedicure kit, lip balm, compact mirror, and either a silver and pearl necklace or sterling silver toggle heart bracelet (value $200).

Advance tickets are $35 for Brides, and $30 for guests; while $5 from every ticket will go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Sweet Thea will be there, with some new cakes and some delicious samples.  Stop by and say ‘Hi!”

Erin is the whirlwind behind the  ‘Aisle-Walk Wedding Guide‘, a fabulous local wedding magazine, and she is highly regarded as one of the top wedding photographers in the country.

Avoid the wedding show crowds and join us for a relaxing afternoon of wine and canapes at a chic location.  A small group of top wedding pros have agreed to share their afternoon to offer advice, answer questions, and let you pick their creative brains.  So grab your fiance or friend and join in the fun!

It will be held at Milestone Events beautiful location, near 56th Avenue and 195 Street in Surrey.  This is not a bridal show – it is much more casual than that.  It goes from 11am to 4pm on SUNDAY OCTOBER 25th.

Thea will be in attendance, with some of her delicious cake samples.  Come buy and say hello!

Sweet Thea wedding cakes are now featured in a great wedding planning website, The Ring Bearer.

We get contacted regularly by sites that want to trade links with us; most of them are just collections of links, without any unique articles or interesting content – we just ignore them.  The Ring Bearer is different – a Canadian website with great photos and lots of fabulous articles.

This month’s issue has great articles about wedding traditions from Spain, organic favour boxes,  a look at some angelic gowns, and even a wacky feature on Star Trek wedding traditions (including a Klingon wedding video!)  Drink recipes, real-life wedding stories,  a food section, and tons more.  For example, the great photo above is from the Bridesmaid’s gallery – this beauty is by designer Suzanne Ermann – a knee-length Charleston dress with curved neckline and fine straps; overlay in tulle; sheer sleeves with volutes at wrist and hemline. Many more designers are featured in their galleries.

First, we went to Scoop-n-Save, in downtown Langley.  ‘One of my favorite places!’ Thea enthused.  ‘I used to buy all my specialty items – lustre dust, dowling – from the States, until I discovered Scoop-n-Save!’

This small store on Fraser Highway is neatly stuffed with cake decorating supplies, chocolate supplies, rolled fondant supplies, bulk candles; they even rent cake pans. Co-owner Janice was kind enough to let me take a photo inside the shop:

Next up -  Lentia, where Thea picked up an expensive 1kg container of raspberry ‘fruchtpaste’, made by Dreidoppel in Germany.  ‘I like to use European ingredients’, she said, ‘they are the best quality’.

Thea was excited about our next stop, Essential Packaging.  ‘It’s my favorite place ever! Heaven – it’s packaging heaven!  – it’s got everything you could ever want- ribbons, boxes, colored boxes, colored paper – its beautiful, I could spend hours in there and still feel like I could need more time.  … that crinkly paper you could put inside packages, like that easter paper, every single box shape and color you can imagine, every wrapping paper, clear, patterns, metallic, invitation cards …’

One groom this weekend is allergic to dairy products, and Thea needed a butter substitute that she can trust – so for our last stop, we headed to Choices.  She found two different products to try out – expensive, like most things at Choices, but undeniably excellent quality.

With that, our shopping was done.  What a fun day! If you ever need cake decorating supplies,  you can’t go wrong checking out any of these great suppliers:
