Happy Anniversary, Queen Rania and King Hussein

Posted on by laurie2

In 1993 Rania Al-Yassin, then working for Citibank, met Jordanian Prince Abdullah bin Al-Hussein at a dinner party.

Two months later, they announced their engagement, and, exactly 16 years ago today, Rania married the Prince.  This is a photo of them cutting their wedding cake-

In 1999 her husband was made King Abdullah II of Jordan, and a few months later, she was proclaimed Queen – at age 28, the world’s youngest Queen.

Since her coronation, Rania has become known throughout the world for her work on social and political issues. In 1995 she was simultaneously named the third most beautiful woman in the world by Harper’s Bazaar, and one of the 100 most powerful women in the world by Forbes magazine.

Rania, a wife and mother who likes to drive her kids to school, is definitely a smart gorgeous woman. Of course, her husband Hussein is used to smart and gorgeous women; his 4th wife, the American Lisa Halaby, now known as Queen Noor, is no slouch in either department.

That’s right, there are two queens of Jordan.

Did I mentioned she appeared in a video with will.i.am of the Black Peas?

Happy anniversary, Rania and Hussein.  Peace.
